No health insurance- “home” health care?

Question by istillcantflybutim: No health insurance- “home” health care?
I am a poor college student (as many of us are) and cannot afford health insurance. I do have a basic understanding of human anatomy, however, and was thinking many of the basic health problems I could diagnose/help/cure/etc. without the help of an MD. I heard from a friend or a friend that she was in much of the situation and used some set of books that doctors use when they aid in third world countries. It helps with many of the relatively small health problems a person could have using nothing more than what’s available in a person’s house, basically. A sort of “home-remedy” book. Anyone heard of it or have any other suggestions? I have heard of “Web-MD” and other sites but would prefer a set of books to the web incase it’s unavailable later.

Suggestions?
