CHASS Center Opens $17 Million Facility to Expand Health Care Services for Southwest Detroit
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) May 04, 2012
Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center, Inc., a 42-year-old organization providing primary health, dental and wellness care to Detroits uninsured and underinsured announced it has opened a new, $ 17-million medical facility in Southwest Detroit.
The new, larger CHASS Southwest Center will provide expanded primary health care and wellness/preventative services to the community of Southwest Detroit. The new building replaces the center occupied since 1975 and will allow CHASS to serve 28,000 patients a year – 17,000 more than its former facility.
We are proud that our new facility will allow us to expand our ability to offer comprehensive primary care and wellness services to the uninsured and underinsured of Detroit, says J. Ricardo Guzman, CEO, CHASS. Over the years, CHASS has successfully overcome the three main barriers to care in the community we serve — access, language and transportation — and today, CHASS is a model of quality health care delivery to urban populations.
The new facility will allow the CHASS Center to enhance the many services it provides to the community, and includes two primary care clinics with 24 exam rooms, four procedure rooms, a diagnostic area, a dental office with six rooms, a pharmacy, lab, patient waiting area with two-story atrium, children’s play area, a walking track, administrative offices, a wellness/conference room, demonstration kitchen, space for Behavioral Health Services, and a nutrition office.
A number of organizations donated funds for the construction of the new center, including $ 4 million from Chase.
Chase has a long commitment to serving the communities where we work and live and there is no better example of that commitment than right here in Detroit, says Sarah McClellan, head of Chases commercial bank in Michigan. Quality social services are critical to a communitys vitality and strength and we are proud to have played a role in the new CHASS facility.
We congratulate CHASS on the opening of its new facility and are very proud that Henry Ford Health System has been a supportive partner since its inception, says Robert Riney, Henry Ford Health System president and chief operating officer. Henry Ford Health System provided $ 3 million for the new medical facility.
CHASS physician services, contracted through Henry Ford, bring high-quality care to patients, with an emphasis on the underserved African-American and Latino populations. The arrangement allows the physician staff at CHASS access to the Henry Ford Medical Group for referral and consultation.
CHASS has a mix of payers to cover the cost of services, including private insurance providers, Medicaid, Medicare, and patient payment for services based on household size and income. No one, however, is denied access to medical care because of an inability to pay.
CHASS Center is located at 5635 West Fort Street. For more information, visit http://www.chasscenter.org or call 313.849.3920.
About CHASS:
CHASS is a federally qualified health center formed to develop, promote, and provide comprehensive, accessible and affordable quality primary health care and support services to all residents of the community, with emphasis on the underserved African American and Latino populations in Detroit. CHASS serves as a medical home, providing culturally competent, bilingual care. Their medical, nutrition and dental providers serve families from conception through the lifespan. The readiness of addiction treatment agencies for health care reform
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) aims to provide affordable health insurance and expanded health care coverage for some 32 million Americans. The PPACA makes provisions for modernizing the delivery of health care services using technology, evidence-based treatments, and integrated and patient-centered care to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and cost-savings within the health care system. To gauge the addiction treatment field’s readiness for health reform, the authors developed a Health Reform Readiness Index (HRRI) survey for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment agencies. Addiction treatment administrators and providers from around the United States were invited to complete the survey. Respondents self-assessed their agency based on thirteen conditions pertinent to…

HealthCompare Educates Health Insurance Consumers with Infographics that Illustrate Todays Hardships
Orange, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2012
HealthCompare creates infographics to educate consumers. Infographics are unique graphics that are growing in popularity across the web are known for utilizing images and colors to help make complex data from scientific reports, demographics, and studies to make them more easily understood by the casual reader. Reports such as the ones used in scientific studies often use jargon and unnecessary language that makes deciphering results difficult for those without the background for these terms. Infographics compress and compile numbers and meanings into aesthetically pleasing arrangements that illustrate rather than tell. They can also functionally layout arguments for debates, complex concepts or any other topic that could otherwise be considered difficult to understand.
These new graphics explain hardships that can effect consumers when it comes to medical coverage. HealthCompare is nationally recognized for caring about patient knowledge and choice. They want consumers to understand as much as possible when it comes to making decisions regarding coverage that suits their needs.
In this release, the following five infographics are:
How To Find Affordable Individual Health Insurance – Designed to direct and educate health insurance consumers find individual health insurance thats more affordable
Buying Individual Health Insurance Effectively – Designed to help todays consumers choose health insurance thats effective for them
Where To Look For The Cheapest Health Insurance – Created to help shoppers find the cheapest health insurance for their needs
Is College Health Insurance Smart – Designed to help college students decide if paying for health insurance is a good idea for them or if skipping it would be acceptable
Not All Free Health Insurance Quotes Are Created Equal – Created to illustrate how some health insurance quotes are not complete
More infographics can be found here.
HealthCompare, a nationally recognized health insurance comparison site, is releasing these new tools in their attempt to help Americans who are in search of health insurance. The company consistently displays concern for consumers, asks visitors that come to their site to ask themselves a series of questions before attempting to find health insurance coverage. They are designed to help shoppers decipher what type of coverage is best for them in terms of cost and type of policy.
The questions that HealthCompare encourages consumers to ask themselves are:
What are the consumers current health care needs? Do they currently require medication? Does the consumer have a pre-existing condition? Or are they seeking to start a family in the near future?
Does the financial state of the shopper allow for a lower deductible, thusly giving them a higher monthly premium? Or would having a high deductible (and therefore lower monthly premium) be more beneficial?
Is the consumers physician a factor? If they prefer to continue seeing their doctor of choice, HealthCompare helps them decide what policies allow that.
Are there any other health insurance options for the shopper, such as spouse or parent plan?
Once consumers get their quotes, HealthCompare then helps them narrow their decisions by prompting them to ask further questions, like:
How much will the policies being compared cost them from their pocket when considering deductibles, co-insurance, and co-pays?
What will the policies being compared offer in terms of maximum out-of-pocket expense?
Will the consumers office visits be covered?
Do any of the policies up for comparison offer maternity?
Is prescription drug coverage an option?
How much will the consumer pay for emergency services and ambulances?
Will the current primary physician and local hospitals be accepted under any of the policies being considered?
Health insurance costs are much more involved than mere premiums and buyers must carefully consider all out of pocket expenses to understand what their policies will ultimately cost them. Thats why HealthCompare designed these infographics to help shoppers understand what faces them.
About Health Compare: HealthCompare was launched in 2009 to work with brokers and carriers to help individuals and families easily research, compare, buy, and enroll in the right health insurance plan at the right price.
