Healthcare Costs Around the Time of Smoking Cessation
Background:
The Affordable Care Act mandates that new insurance plans cover smoking-cessation therapy without cost-sharing. Previous cost difference estimates, which show a spike around the time of cessation, suggest premiums might rise as a result of covering these services.
Purpose:
The goal of the study was to test (1) whether individuals in an RCT of pharmacotherapy and counseling for smoking cessation differed in their healthcare costs around the cessation period, and (2) whether the healthcare costs of those in the trial who successfully quit were different from a matched sample of smokers in the community.
Methods:
Generalized linear regression models were used to analyze healthcare cost data on individuals enrolled in a comparative effectiveness trial of cessation therapies be…

Four percent of the time your test strips are fully capable of killing you
I wish this were an April Fool’s Day post, but it’s not. Yesterday I told you to brew coffee. Today, break out the whiskey. The food for the UltraLink is the current generation of OneTouch strips, the so-called Ultra Blue. Each strip tests the sample twice and averages the result. At least that’s what the TV commercials say, so it must be true. Checking the package insert, I couldn’t find anything about that, but I did see that you can use the strips up to 10,000 feet in altitude. They think. They actually only tested them up to 5,280 feet and “simulated” altitudes up to 10,000. I’m not sure how you simulate an altitude. Anyway, mountain climbers beware. And if your hematocrit is off you’ll get false highs or lows. And if you take a shit-load of vitamin C or acetaminophen it…

When is the appropriate time to buy homeowners insurance?
Question by : When is the appropriate time to buy homeowners insurance?
I made a contract for the house one week ago.Now I am waiting for the reply from the seller about the home inspection results. Because the settlement date is in the middle of april, I want to buy homeowner’s insurance as fast as possible. But if the seller nulls the contract (because of the home inspection contingency), or if the mortgage application does not go through, I will waste my money by buying the homeowners insurance so fast. What timing should I buy the insurance? Thanks in advance.

I would highly advise a home warranty for at least the first year. American Home Shield offers one that is pretty good. We got our plan for like $ 450 for the year, and when we had to replace the hot water heater, it cost us all of $ 50 to have it done. We had the seller purchase the plan in our buy agreement when we got our house in November of last year.
You also HAVE TO HAVE enough life insurance per person to cover the total house loan in the case that one of you dies for some unknown reason. Life insurance is of course optional, but you don’t want to be left with a ton of bills and a mortgage to pay one one income. We got $ 100K policies for about $ 21 each a month through our insurance company, and then we have another $ 100K through my husband’s work – enough to cover our house loan.
Other than those two things, which in my mind can be total lifesavers, I can’t think of anything else.

Phoenix Home Remodeling Company, Republic West Remodeling, Completes North Scottsdale Garage and Workshop Project within Aggressive 10-Week Time Frame
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 14, 2012
Phoenix home remodeling company, Republic West Remodeling, announced it has successfully completed a North Scottsdale garage and workshop project within the established 10-week schedule and budget. The project included a large-scale, detached garage and workshop that was built from the ground-up.
In addition to a tight schedule, complex planning and zoning requirements also added to the projects challenges. Significant effort was involved in completing the process through the necessary regulatory agencies. The project was effectively permitted and inspected through the city of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Fire Department.
The project location also presented some unique issues. Local wildlife, including Javelina, frequent the area and can be destructive to surrounding vegetation. Special precautions had to be taken during construction to prevent wild animals from entering the backyard.
This new garage and workshop provides more storage, function and square footage that will undoubtedly add value to the customers property, said Jim Weisman, owner of Republic West Remodeling, a leading Phoenix home remodeling company. By delivering completed projects as promised, our customers have come to appreciate the work we do and readily refer our company to other homeowners.

Not only check out low cost, but make sure what you’re buying is worth it. There’s some things you just wouldn’t buy at the dollar store and insurance shouldn’t be one of them.
